Things that Go Bump in the Night: The Flu Season Is Upon Us

    Date: September 22, 2024

The annual flu season is almost here. This year it may be a bit more interesting than the usual ho-hum affair. Serious policy makers (including our own George W. Bush!) and researchers are warning that we may be in for a rough ride in the near future, that it is now a matter of when not if. Governments, regulatory agencies and international organizations such as WHO are getting the message: this flu season may be different from the usual. But whether or not these more gloomy scenarios play out, there is no question that we still have to deal with the annual flu that comes around as regular as clockwork.

As immune compromised patients we are more at risk than most “normal” people. Please read Flu Preparedness to get some background information, risk factors, and practical do's and don'ts that might make the difference between staying healthy or taking your chances with the flu this season.

I agonized over this article. It was not easy, trying to walk a fine line between not creating a panic, and at the same time give you an important Alert to what may be around the corner. If this Alert and the related article on our website make you sit up and take notice, do a little bit of reading and prudent planning, I would have achieved my purpose. There are many credible sources of information out there on the subject bird flu and why it may pose special risks for the world. You owe it to yourself and your family to become aware of the information. As they say, hope for the best but plan for things that go bump in the night.

    Be well,

    Chaya
